What’s the best haircut for my face shape?

Face Shape

It’s easy to get caught up with hair trends, even if they don’t really suit your face. It’s a sin we’ve all committed before, so that’s alright. However, you might want to consider getting it right this time. And it all starts by making sure what your face shape is!

If you have an Oval Face…

Oval FaceBring on the bangs! If you have a long face, bangs across your brow line aren’t just going to do wonders on the length of your face, it will also add a flattering width.

Oval Face 3A nice bob with side-swept bangs – Do your bob until the shoulder, you’re going to look oh so sweet that way.

Shoulder length or longer tresses with a part at the center – Straight or with waves, it’s gonna go a long way!

Or if you wanna go short… Show off your neck with a funky cut like Rihanna’s, though she’s sporting a different ‘do now.

If you have a Heart-shaped Face…

Heart ShapedA deep side part would be good, just like the one Reese Witherspoon has right here.

Heart Shaped 2Pixie Cut – Adorable, clean, and if you add side-swept bangs, you’ll look instantly gorgeoooous!

You can also go for a bouncy, healthy bob. A cut below the jaw will do wonders to your face.

If you have a Round Face…

Put your hair up into a sleek pony! No need to change anything on your hairstyle, and it costs $0 (that is, if you already have elastics ready)!

Round Face 2Long layered tresses – Part it at the center, cut it past the shoulder, and make sure that a few strands hit the jaw. Sexy.

Round Face 3Or go Assymetrical – Be adventurous by going for an uneven haircut that has different lengths. Part it at the side and add side-swept bangs too for an instant slimming effect.

If you have a Square Face…

Go for the tousled, layered look to draw the attention away from the squareness of your face.

Square Face 2You could also go for long, wavy tresses to hide a bit of your jawline.

Or just go for the classic long and straight look!

Now that you know. it’s time to look at yourself in the mirror and decide if you do have the right haircut for your face shape. Does it flatter your delicate face angles in all the right places? Does it brighten up your face? Because if it doesn’t it’s high time for you to head on out to the salon and get the ‘do that’s right for you!

Don’t be scared. Embrace the change. You’re going to love it for sure!

Are Fishnet Stockings Ever OK to wear in the Office?

Fishnet 1Whenever we think of fishnet stockings, some of the words that come to mind are ‘sultry’, ‘sexy’, perhaps even ‘erotic’ or ‘suggestive’, which are adjectives that we can’t afford to be given to us as descriptions, especially if we want to be taken seriously at work.

So does that automatically mean that we can no longer wear them to the office? Not necessarily. If you love fishnet stockings and don’t see anything wrong with wearing them, you can still go ahead and do so as you please—BUT there are rules to consider. Find out what they are here.

Fishnet 5Choose Smaller Holes

The smaller the holes of your fishnets, the better. It should be small enough that from a distance, people won’t be able to tell if you are wearing fishnets or not. Why? Because this will keep people from thinking you’re showing off your legs in a seductive way.

Keep it Simple

The net pattern is enough as a design, don’t try to wear anything else that would make people keep staring and staring.

Fishnet 4And with regard to color, please bear in mind that you’re not going to a party. You’re not even trying (we hope) to get some attention at the office. For that matter, no reds, no blues, and absolutely NO NEONS! Stick to black, brown, or charcoal.

Shoes

When wearing fishnets, make sure that you partner them with closed-toe shoes. No strappy sandals or SONY DSCtoo-sexy heels. The fishnets are subtly sexy enough.

Office Attire

Nothing revealing please. If you’re going to be wearing a skirt, please keep it to at least an inch above the knee. But then again, it’s still going to be up to you, isn’t it?

When wearing fishnet stockings, remember to keep it classy. You’re going to go a long way with it, for sure.

How to Create Your Own Dress

75 Fashion and Me

You do know that you can sew your own dress, don’t you? It’s not such a complicated thing to do, especially if you come prepared even before you start with a project. There are hundreds of tutorials to be found online, but before you begin, it’s best to know the basics.

Choose A Style as a Basis for your Pattern

This is actually the most thrilling part of making a dress—choosing the style. If this is your first time, make sure you choose something simple, so as not to overwhelm you. Take your measurements, and have a friend help you with it. Make some allowances. Remember, comfort is everything.

Go Shopping for a Fabric!

First of all, the pattern should go with the fabric. Make sure that you don’t match voile with a dress that’s structured. And don’t make the mistake of choosing a stiff fabric that’s supposed to flow.

Also, make a checklist. Should the fabric be made of natural fibers? Does it need to be thin in order for your skin to breathe?

Know about the types of folds on a dress

Gathers, darts, and pleats. What are these? These are folds that are made to adjust or accommodate your body curves. Without it, your body’s going to be extremely uncomfortable at the flatness of the fabric, so it’s important that you familiarize yourself with them.

Marking the Fabric

Cut your pattern using either pins or pattern weights. Be sure to use your pins only inside the seam allowances, and when marking your fabric, make sure you use pens that wash away with water. You don’t want to make that mistake. Trust me.

Once you know all these, creating your own dress is going to be easier to do. Pretty soon you’re going to be an expert and save tons of money on shopping! Now wouldn’t that be great?

How you should be taking care of your feet

60 Fashion and me

If only our feet can talk, boy, would we be receiving an earful from them for sure! I can’t even remember how many times I have subjected my feet in such rude, abusive circumstances—and I’m sure you’re feeling the same way. So here are a few ways for you to make sure you treat them kindly.

Because you know, at the end of the day, there’s still nothing else that can compare to going home with happy feet smiling up at you.

Exercise your Feet

Your feet have muscles—just like the rest of your body. How can you expect them to stay strong if you don’t give it exercise? If running is not your thing, that’s alright. Just walk for thirty minutes to an hour every day.

Choose Comfortable Shoes… Always

You’ve probably heard it before—but we’re going to say it again anyway. No matter how gorgeous it looks when you try them on, if it’s NOT comfortable, you’re going to end up regretting you bought them in the first place.

Observe Proper Hygiene

Wash your feet. Everyday. Give it a foot spa, at least once a month. Use foot powder when you’re wearing closed shoes, and always wear fresh socks. Bacteria multiplies fast, and your feet are no stranger to bacteria especially when they’re moist.

It doesn’t take much to make your feet happy, just remember to stick to these rules, and your toes will be wiggling with glee more frequently than ever!

5 Ways to take care of your Nails

58 Fashion and Me

In my opinion, our nails are underrated and underappreciated, and it is often the least bit taken care of.

But our nails are tough, which means it can stand a bit of ignoring. You just need to make sure that no grime gets to live in your nail beds and you’re all set.

Or are you?

Just because your nails are tough doesn’t mean you can keep on ignoring it. Here are a few ways to take care of your nails aside from giving it the occasional manicure (and pedicure).

Use Nail Creams

Nail creams are great for your nails, and they’re not that hard to come by either. If you think your hand creams are enough, better think again. Nail cream has all the essentials for your nails which your regular lotion or hand cream might not even have.

Push your Cuticles, don’t cut them

Use a cuticle remover and push your nails gently, but don’t cut them.

Manicures

Manicures aren’t to be done too frequently, only once a month. If you do, you’re going to wear them out for sure. And don’t use acetone when removing nail polish, instead, use an oil-based nail polish remover. It’s kinder.

Use gloves when doing chores

Not only are you taking care of your hands this way, you’re being good to your nails too.

Use Nail Hardeners

If you have weak nails, this could really help out a lot. So don’t just invest in them, make sure that you use them regularly. You can’t expect it to work overnight.

With these tips, you’re bound to have tougher, stronger nails in no time.

Fashion Rules for Men This Spring 2014

Fashion-and-me Men's Fashion III 55

March marks the switch from winter to spring and it is also perfect timing to talk about spring fashion trends for men. Not only is everybody happy that the long cold months are over. This winter is probably the coldest winter and everybody just wants a bit more sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Lighter Fabrics

Aside from the season’s switch, it’s also time to rethink your outfits. It’s time to put the heavy wool and cashmere back into your closet and pull out your linens and cottons. Just because its warmer does not mean you can use some layering. Lighter fabrics can still be layered to protect you from chilly air.

Color Blocking

There will be more color blocked shirts on the street this winter. This is the new black this spring and you can easily pair them up with your pants or shorts. Patterns of color-blocked shirts can be horizontal, diagonal or vertical.

Outer Clothing

In the New York Fashion Week, bomber jackets are a big hit. When you are shopping for one, you will find a wide variety of patterns – printed, athletic, wool or leather. Try to look for a bomber acket that is not too bulky for your body.

Pants

This spring you’ll be seeing a lot of printed pants in the male clothing department. If you are choosing printed pants, find one that is well-tailored so that you won’t be mistaken for wearing your PJs out on a spring morning. A plain shirt would complement the print just right so keep it as minimal as you can.

Things to consider when shopping for high-heeled shoes

Fashion-and-me 59

Just because they look good on celebrities and supermodels don’t mean those heels are going to look good on you too. There are a few things you need to know before you buy heels—so you can guarantee that you won’t only be wearing them on those rare formal occasions when there is almost no chance you’ll be walking more than 5 feet, you’ll be able to wear them comfortably as well. Keep reading to find out what these tips are.

The Proper Fit

We know this is probably a ‘DUH’ moment, but a lot of women buy shoes that are at least half a size too small for their feet but don’t mind because “it’s too pretty!”

Well. Let me tell you that your shoe size changes each and every time you gain weight—so make sure you measure your feet before you go shoe shopping so you won’t be indulging them in a lifetime of blisters.

Consider Shoe Inserts

Your feet need all the support it can get, so if you can give it to them, why won’t you right? It’s not as if you won’t feel anything if it’s already starting to throb.

Choose Wider Heels

For the love of balance, please choose square toe box heels. Unless you consider yourself the queen of it all, then you can have pin heels, if that would make you happy. (Just always be careful though)

These are just a few things you should consider when shopping for high heels. Remember, not everything is about looking good. It’s also about making sure you’ll still be able to walk properly when you’re seventy years old.

The Big Dilemma of Losing Weight: When is it the right time to buy new clothes?!

Fashion-and-me Chubby 56

Nothing beats that feeling when you try to lose weight and you just keep going and going until you slowly start to see the results: Your waist is getting smaller, that double chin is starting to disappear, and your facial contours are becoming more pronounced.

But the best part of all? You’re finally beginning to shrink away from your clothes! Especially those dreadful jeans that can fit at least 4 children in there. UGH!

It pays to see the results of all the hard work you’ve been doing, and you start getting that itch once again. That itch of rewarding yourself with, what else?! SHOPPING!

But is it the right time to buy new clothes? Keep reading to find out.

Is it time?

Most of those who try to lose the excess fats have a specific weight in mind. So for example, if you’re halfway down your goal, it may mean that your old clothes could be flapping around you already. Buy clothes that fit, but make sure you set a limit to it, as they’re only temporary.

Buy from Surplus Shops

And why not? There are plenty of clothes out there that are pretty decent. And besides, if you’re really serious about going all the way with your weight loss, you’re only going to be wearing it for a little while longer.

Splurge when it’s time

The right time is when you have finally reached your target weight. THIS is when you know you truly deserve a reward for ALL THOSE MONTHS of working out!

Make it your goal. See it as your finish line. Nothing’s sweeter than knowing that at the end of the road, you have a whole range of fashion choices you can make for your lithe, gorgeous body.

See you there!

Is there a right way to show the skin?

backdress

Just like everything else in fashion, there’s a right and wrong way to do things—and that involves showing the skin. Sure, there are times when you feel like showing a lot of it is the only way to go, but it also pays to give away just the right amount to leave some of the rest to the imagination.

It’s called skin strategy and you should know how it’s being done.

One off-shoulder dresses/tops

This style combines femininity with sheer sexiness, so make sure you have one or two of these in your closet to throw on when the need calls for it.

Leg Show Down

May it be a short skirt, dress, or a tiny mini, your legs will surely get the attention that it needs when you combine this with a somewhat ‘modest’ shirt or top with 3-quarter sleeves.

Backless back turner

Showing your back off isn’t just a sign of elegance, it also shows how comfortable you are in your skin. But choose wearing a backless dress carefully, to keep on the mystery. The length of the dress should be full on both the arms and the legs—if your aim is to show off your back and you wouldn’t want anything else in your body to steal the attention.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your skin, but there’s something beautiful about keeping it simple as well. So always remember these tips. You’ll look radiant, no doubt.
